City hires new ADA Coordinator- What’s the advantage to the city with this new position?

Recently, the city announced the recruitment of a new individual to fill two simultaneous positions as the ADA Coordinator and Diversity and Equity Coordinator. The position that is split into two parts is expected to offer a generous annual remuneration of about $80+k. However, it appears some individuals are criticizing the decision to bring in a new Diversity and Equity Coordinator, debating whether or not the role is necessary considering the city’s already existing Human Resources Director.

Moreover, there seems to be a concern about the city’s failure to do anything to acknowledge Disability Awareness Month. According to reports, while the role of the ADA Coordinator ensures that there are established ADA policies, compliance enforcement seems to have been a problematic area for some time.

As a result, some individuals are questioning if the new ADA Coordinator hired for this role possesses adequate experience for the position.
