The Methuen Commission on Disabilities honored the owners of two Methuen businesses this past week for their efforts to make their facilities handicap accessible.
Michel Condon. owner of the Councilor’s Function Facility, at 270 Lawrence Street, and Paul Devin and James Trequet, owners of the Merrimack Place Office Complex, at 184 Pleasant Valley Street, were honored this past Thursday in a ceremony at Mayor DiZoglio’s office in the Searles Building.
Disabilities Commission Chairperson Sid Harris said the owners were chosen for their efforts to make previously non-accessible locations accessible to handicap residents. He said the efforts included the installation of ramps, elevators, and handicapped-accessible restrooms.
Mayor DiZoglio praised the honorees and expressed the hope they will set an example for other business and property owners.
“I think you see two businesses that have been more proactive.” Mayor DiZoglio said. “I’d like to commend them and ask their colleagues to follow the lead set by the companies.”
Mr. Harris said these are the first certificates of appreciation the Disabilities Commission has made for such efforts. The commission was formed by the City Council to deal with the concerns of the disabled and voice them to the community at large.
