Methuen Electric Vehicle Charger Ready for Public to Use… but apparently not for those with disabilities

Mayor Perry announced the first electric charging station now in use for the public. But it appears not for the use of the disabled who own electric vehicles. Hmmm!

Mayor Perry recently publicly announced on August 20, 2020 of Methuen’s first electric car charging station located at the Nevin’s Memorial Library is now ready of public use. But not all of those in the public get that opportunity to use it.

Under the American with Disabilities Act it’s required that all public services are to be accessible to those with disabilities.  Methuen has had over 30 years to learn accessibly requirements and God knows that I’ve been a very loud advocate for it during those years.

Methuen once again failed to include the required accessible features when creating this area which does not include the required accessible paragon space.  Another Mayor… same old problems.  Their agendas never have the inclusion of “moving forward”  for an accessible community for all. Never!

One would have to think is Methuen really discriminatory in its nature or is its arrogance and ignorance to the subject matter?  From a ADA lawsuit in 2005 and again in 2014, to the failed attempt to not make the home bleachers accessible at the $4.3M renovations of the Nicholson Stadium and countless other examples…. when does Methuen learn?  Do we have to endure another  class action suite against this city with the U.S. Department of Justice for what can easily be classified as a discriminatory community?  Why can’t this city make good sound decisions?

UPDATE: After two years of debate with the city, the access aisle to charging station now have been implemented as of June 1, 2023.
